Spring is Here… a New Season for a New Blog

April 14, 2024 (Houston, Alaska) Well here we are… mid-April in Alaska. The sun is shining and it’s warm (yes mid-40’s is very warm for us) especially after such a cold and dark winter. We have almost 15 hours of daylight right now and each day we are gaining 6 more minutes of daylight. Today our sunrise was at 6:37am and sunset is at 9:22pm.

It’s hard to believe that in less than 2 weeks our night sky will go away and we won’t see stars again until mid-August. Sigh…. I will miss the stars the most. But on the flip side the midnight sun gives us our amazing summers up here and I can not wait for summer. We have several camping trips planned, we want to get out on the boat more this summer and of course we have many friends and some family coming up later this summer to see us. So with that said… bring on the sunshine!

We are also on the final week of Gary being on crutches. Hopefully this Tuesday the doctor gives Gary the okay to ditch the sticks (his crutches) and more forward on his recovery from a meniscus root repair surgery he had at the beginning of March. These past six weeks have been very hard on both of us and all I can say is Gary killed it! For him to just sit on his butt and do nothing for six weeks has been one of the hardest things he’s ever done… but he did it and he put up with me as his caregiver LOL! We are both looking forward to getting the all clear to get him back to normal.

With that clearance it will also mean we can get back to filming fresh new content for our new Living Free Alaska YouTube channel. When we hit that record button it will all be in realtime because these last six weeks sitting on the couch have been pretty boring and who wants to watch that so we didn’t hit that record often. With his release from the crutches we can also start working on some projects around the homestead that will be way more interesting to you. Some of those projects include making some picnic benches for our RV lot, beautification upgrades around the property, and maybe just maybe we will get started on a shelving system in our upstairs den. I know we also still need to finish painting the exterior of our house and of course… hopefully this is the year we get a in-ground garden put in.

Not only do we have home projects but summer means playtime! It’s time to get outside and enjoy Alaska in all her summer glory. From boating and fishing to camping and playing tourist to maybe some hikes with Bill I am sure we can find something interesting to do together.

I just wanted to take one more moment and thank you for being apart of our Alaska journey. When I started this new YouTube Channel back in February I had no idea how fast we would grow under the new brand. Our minds were blown and already the new friendships found through our videos have just melted our hearts. To think we are only three months into this brand and have come so far… so thank you because we couldn’t have done it without your support and viewership. Gary and I hope that you will come back often to see what we’ve got going on up here in South Central Alaska! Until next time…
